Build a Bug Hotel (biodiversity in your garden)

Build a Bug Hotel (biodiversity in your garden)

Event Information

Biodiversity – lots of bees and butterflies and beetles – is essential for a healthy, thriving garden or growing space. They look after the soil, keep the pests in check, and pollinate your plants!

We can give them a helping hand in our gardens by creating safe, cosy spaces for them to hide and forage. A bug hotel is an easy, cheap and fun (for all the family!) way to encourage good creepy crawlies in your garden using household and garden waste materials.

Join us at the YMCA Gallatown Hub in Kirkcaldy to build your own bug hotel. You can make a small one to take home, or help us to build a big one for the YMCA wild play space.

This is a great workshop for kids! Everyone welcome.

All materials are provided, but if you’d like to bring a clean tin can, bamboo canes, pine cones or anything else you think the bugs would like you can do.

We’ll work outside if the weather is good, or inside if it’s not. Please wear suitable shoes for being out in the garden and bring a raincoat just in case. If you’d like to wear gardening gloves, we’ll have a few spare, but please bring your own if you have them.

Under 16s should be accompanied by a responsible adult.

Cafe Inc will provide free packed lunches on site between 11:45 and 1pm for anyone who’d like one.
