The Invisible Life of Microbes

The Invisible Life of Microbes

Event Information

Explore the hidden life in our soil—hands-on workshop, microscopes, and take-home Winogradsky columns.

ASCUS Art & Science will host an open, hands-on workshop inviting participants to explore the unseen life and materials beneath our feet. This session brings together art, science, and environmental curiosity through practical, accessible activities.

You’ll learn how to assess soil health using soil chromatography, revealing unique patterns and colours. Participants will also create their own take-home Winogradsky column, a living system built from soil and water collected from the Kirkcaldy area, allowing you to observe microbial life developing over time.

Microscopes will be available throughout, offering close‑up views of microbial life and fresh perspectives on local ecosystems. No prior experience needed—just curiosity and a willingness to get hands-on.

This is a free ticketed event. Please book to help us manage numbers and to avoid disappointment!
