The Future of Waste

The Future of Waste

Event Information

How does stuff become waste? Why are some things thrown away and others kept? What does waste mean to other-than-human things, like seabirds, dogs, or rocks?

The waste created for centuries by humans, and the widespread issues it is causing, presents one of today’s biggest environmental challenges. In and around Kirkcaldy, material from coal mining, linoleum manufacturing and other industries, as well as more recent landfill sites, has become part of the beach habitat. Climate change is further destabilising the coastal environment, making the impacts more unpredictable.

In this creative, hands-on workshop, facilitated by artists Minty Donald and Nick Millar, we will work with (safe) items of waste, you will explore how materials transform from useful or valuable to rubbish – or to something else. Using creative activities to engage imaginatively with the futures of waste.

No previous experience or special skills needed!
