Powering-up Fife’s Repair & Advice Cafes Event
Event Information
Are you running a Repair Café in your community or thinking about starting one?
Join us for a celebration of Fife’s Repair and Advice Cafés! Meet our wonderful volunteer repairers specialising in electronics, clothing, jewellery, and IT, who are here to help and inspire you with all your repair questions. This event is also a fantastic opportunity for different repairers to connect and share best practices. Our special guest of the day is Reusing IT, an amazing charity that collects and refurbishes old laptops and devices to help bridge the digital divide.
Join us for networking opportunities to learn, share, and meet new people in the Repair Café community. Learn more about this event below, or reach out to jennifer.miller@fccan.org.uk with any questions!
12 – 2: Networking event & lunch with Fife’s repair cafes (not open to the public)
Welcoming current Repair groups, and individuals interested in starting such groups in their own community
Join us for a dynamic networking event hosted by Transition’s Repair & Advice Café, where technology meets sustainability and social impact. This gathering welcomes all repair groups in Fife, and also invites anyone who is interested in starting a Repair Cafe to join us, learning from groups who have successfully ran their own groups. Transition & The Fife Climate Hub are teaming up to limit barriers to this event, including opening up an Accessibility fund that will reimburse all travel to and from this event.
Featured Speaker: Ross Cockburn, ReusingIT We’re thrilled to welcome Ross Cockburn from the Scottish charity ReusingIT, who will share insights into their inspiring initiative: a large-scale project delivering refurbished laptops to communities in Ukraine and Scotland affected by conflict. The electric and IT repair of old laptops breaths new life into forgotten devices by installing updated operating systems and preparing them for a meaningful second chapter.
2-4:30: Repair & Advice Café (open to the public)
Come along to our Grand Repair Cafe – a collaborative effort between the many Repair Cafes in Fife! Each group will have skilled volunteer repairers on-hand to fix up the household goods you repaired – clothing, electrical goods, jewellery, ceramics and IT advice (including how to install Linux and Open Source Software) from ReusingIT and the University of St Andrews.
Donate Your Old Laptops
Bring along your unused laptops and donate them to ReusingIT, helping support education in regions where access to technology is limited. Your contribution could empower young people living in areas of political unrest. ReusingIT is a registered Scottish charity dedicated to advancing education and welfare worldwide. They source, refurbish, and distribute computers and related equipment to schools, community groups, and NGOs—bridging the digital divide one device at a time. Ross Cockburn of ReusingIT will give a short speech at the beginning of this event to share more about the important work his organization is doing.
