Climate Friendly Gardens – composting and coffee workshop

Climate Friendly Gardens – composting and coffee workshop

Event Information

Making compost at home is an environmentally-friendly way of dealing with your kitchen and garden waste. You can easily make an excellent free, soil improver, for your garden or pots, that you don’t need to transport or buy from the garden centre.

Come and join us for some fresh coffee or tea, which we can add to the composter! At the workshop we will discuss what space and equipment you need, then learn about the different types of materials you can put in to your compost bin to get a perfect mix.

This workshop is led by Dr Liz Lakin, a senior lecturer at the University of Dundee and the Academic Lead for the Living Lab at Dundee Botanic Garden.

Using your own compost helps reduce the need to use shop bought fertilisers, builds soil health, and make plants and soils more resilient to drought.

There will be a mixture of discussion and activities to ensure you go away inspired and confident to get started. We will also look at possible problems and what should and shouldn’t go in to give you the best chance of producing great compost.

Free, booking is required. Email the organiser to register.

About our tutor, Dr Liz Lakin: Trained originally as a school biology teacher, Liz continues her teaching and research in biology and environmental science at Dundee. She has a keen interest in all things to do with plants.
