Big Picnic & Parade

Lundin Links Common, a free and fun community celebration that you help to make!

Organised by Largo Communities Together in partnership with Largo Area Community Council and the community.

Join us for the Big Picnic (and Parade), the Largo area’s much-loved annual community gathering, now in its 7th year. Bring a blanket, bring your lunch, and come and spend the afternoon with your neighbours on the Common.

The Day at a Glance

10.30am, Flag & Pennant Making, The Crusoe Hotel Head to the Crusoe Hotel in your best fancy dress and join us for flag and pennant making before the parade. Children especially encouraged to come dressed as a shipwrecked sailor, a pirate, or anything sea-themed!

12pm, Shipwrecked-Themed Parade departs The parade sets off from the Crusoe Hotel, heading up to Lundin Links Common. Join the procession led by Leven and District Pipe Band: flags, fancy dress and all.

12 noon, Big Picnic begins, Lundin Links Common Stalls, activities, games, food and music. Bring a picnic, a feast and a blanket and settle in for the afternoon. Join the parade and come up that way, or be there to greet the arrivals.

3.30pm, Close The official programme wraps up at 3.30pm, though when it’s sunny people often linger.

What to Expect on the Day

🎪 Stalls & Information: community groups, local organisations and good causes.

🎯 Games & Activities: fun for all ages, including special Father’s Day games (it’s Father’s Day!). Lundin Bowling Club will have try bowling on the green for anyone who fancies a go, and a welly-throwing competition to see who can hurl them the furthest. Games provided by  the Friendship Group, Stew Fowlie, the Rotary Club of Leven and East Fife RDA, who’ll also have Pepsi the horse on the Common and a ‘search for Pooh’ for the children. Plants and more from the Horticultural Society… Plus🍪 Biscuit Making with LCT: pop along to the LCT stall and have a go.

🥪 Food & Drink: bring your own picnic and pick up some home baking. Lundin Bowling Club will throw open their doors and their bar from 11.30am, with ice cream, pies, hotdogs and other takeaway food, including a pie and a pint for £5, plus tea, coffee and cakes. Homelands Trust-Fife are bringing baking and a tombola, and the East Neuk Trinity Church will also have baking. Lily’s Larder will be open round the corner, as will Zaphar’s shop.

🎵 Music: live music from OpenSea to enjoy while you relax on the Common. Leven and District Pipe Band will lead the parade.

🌊 Alexander Selkirk 350th: this year’s event is part of the wider 350th anniversary celebrations for Largo’s most famous son.

💛 Support for Carers & ♿ Accessibility: Alzheimer Scotland will be there with information, and therapies for unpaid carers are being offered through the Paxton Centre. Largo Beach Wheelchairs (LBW), a new community group, will have a stall on the Common: a raffle and information about LBW, the new accessible toilet, and the Changing Places toilet in Temple Car Park, plus children’s art activities and face painting throughout the day. Disabled access toilets available. All are welcome.

 East Neuk First Responders will be providing all first aid needs.

This year’s theme is Shipwrecked (and fathers!), do dress the part for the parade!

A Few More Notes

  • 🗑️ Please take your rubbish home with you: help us keep the Common beautiful.
  • 🚫 No disposable BBQs: these are restricted by the council.
  • 👗 Strong emphasis on fancy dress: the more the better, especially for the parade.
  • 👨 It’s Father’s Day: bring the dads along for special games and a relaxed afternoon.

Who’s Coming?

We’re delighted to have a brilliant range of local groups and organisations joining us this year, with more to be confirmed.

Lundin Bowling Club are throwing open their doors and their bar from 11.30am, with ice cream, pies, hotdogs, a pie and a pint for £5, plus tea, coffee and cakes, and a generous shared space that other groups are welcome to use, plus disabled access toilets and a wheelchair on site. They’ll also be running a welly-throwing competition and try bowling on the green.

Homelands Trust-Fife will be running activities and workshops, bringing baking and a tombola, and also providing accessible toilet facilities.

The Largo Heritage Group will have a stall full of Alexander Selkirk information, and there will be flag making at the Crusoe before the parade, which will be led by Leven and District Pipe Band.

Largo Beach Wheelchairs, a brand new group, will have a stall on the Common with beach wheelchairs, a children’s art competition, face painting and a raffle, and they’ll be out in force recruiting volunteers, go and say hello if you’d like to get involved.

Largo Cricket Club will be running a stall and activities, and the Rotary Club of Leven are bringing games and their own gazebo.

East Fife RDA will have a games stall, the famous Pepsi the horse, and lots of stories about their work.

Alzheimer Scotland will be there with information about dementia support. The Friendship Group and Stew Fowlie are also offering games. OpenSea will be providing the live music, and East Neuk First Responders will be on hand for first aid.

The LCT Greenways Subgroup will be there gathering your views on routeways and Largo & Newburn Horticultural Society will be selling plants and inviting visitors to plant a seed to take home. They will both have information stalls and more and The Friends of Largo Bay will be there too.

The East Neuk Trinity Church will have a £2 bag stall and baking, and the Largo Harbour Regeneration Group will be along to share project information and gather community views.
